SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana swimming & diving teams open their seasons this weekend heading to Brookings, South Dakota, on Friday night and then to St. Paul, Minnesota, Saturday for a dual against St. Thomas.

"We start off this weekend with a coupling of challenging dual meets," head coach Lindsie Micko said. "SDSU is a perennial contender in the Summit League and St. Thomas has had a strong Division III history and now they've transitioned into a Division I program.

"We're looking forward to racing them both."

About the Men

Augustana brings in 15 newcomers to compete in the Vikings' first year of swimming on the men's side.

Coach Micko expressed her feelings about the men's program, in its first year of competition at Augustana.

"Our men's team will get off the blocks for the first time as a team. I'm excited to see them race and am so proud of the effort they have put in to get ready for these meets.

"This should be a fun, challenging weekend for them."

About the Women

The NSIC recently released the NSIC Women's Swimming & Diving Preseason Coaches poll where the Vikings have been tabbed to finish fourth as a team. In the same release, senior Taylor Beagle was selected the NSIC Preseason Swimmer of the Year for the second-straight year.

Beagle, hailing from Lead, South Dakota, has made her mark within the conference, as well as nationally, during her tenure at Augustana. She holds two NSIC records, coming in the 1000-free (10:10.03) and the 1650-free (17:02.46), along with 10 total conference championships during her time with the Vikings. At last year's national meet, Beagle earned All-America honors in the 1650-free, 1000-free, 500-free and 400-IM.

Augustana, now in its sixth year as a program, bringing in 17 new swimmers and divers to add to the roster from last season.

"This should be our best team we have had in the first five years of the program with more depth than ever." Coach Micko said.

Additionally, the Vikings have added its first diver in school history, also looking to make a splash in Skylar Anderson, a native of Aurora, Colorado.
