Middlesex County officials announced Monday that Johnson Park animal haven will be permanently closed after the remnants of Hurricane Ida flooded the small Piscataway zoo.
The change comes over a month after the deadly September storm caused the Raritan River to swell to record levels, leaving many animals to face floodwaters. It also comes on the heels of at least three protests and two petitions — signed by over 9,000 people — calling for the zoo to be closed for the safety of the animals that reside in a flood zone.
