PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Niagara women's tennis program competed in the ITA Regional Championships in Philadelphia, Pa., this past weekend.
On Friday, Coral Rodriguez and Jaida Borg won their round of 128 singles matches. Rodriguez defeated Rebecca Wolf of Colgate, dominating the first set 6-0 then clinching the win with a hard fought second set, 7-6 (6). Borg made quick work of Binghamton's Abby Ackroyd, defeating her in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.
Mercedes Velasco and Elena Mayet fell in their singles matches on Friday.
In doubles, Velasco and Borg fell in their round of 64 match, while the Purple Eagle pairing of Mayet and Megan Gamble, who earned a first round bye, dropped their round of 32 match.
On Saturday, Rodriguez and Borg who advanced to the singles round of 64 both fell to their opponents.
Up Next
Niagara will head back to the University at Buffalo on Nov. 5 for the UB Invite. That tournament will close out the fall portion of the Purple Eagles schedule.
