Major highways in the metro area set to close overnight due to civil unrest surrounding the death of George Floyd, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced Sunday.
The closures run from 5 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday.
Here is a list of the interstates and highways that will be affected:
- Interstate 35W northbound and southbound between Highway 280 and Highway 62
- Interstate 94 eastbound and westbound between Interstate 694 and Highway 280
- Interstate 394 eastbound between Highway 100 and I-94
- Highway 55 northbound and southbound between Highway 62 and I-94
Routes will remain open for motorists to leave the downtown Minneapolis area.
St. Paul also announced several streets were closed at 2 p.m. around the Capitol and downtown areas:
- University Avenue at Rice Street
- University Avenue at Jackson Street
- John Ireland Boulevard
- All downtown bridges, including St. Peter, Wabasha, Cedar, Robert, Jackson and Minnesota streets
Metro Transit also sent out a notice Sunday, stating all transit service will be suspended through at least Monday. For all essential workers, Metro Transit says Metro Mobility and Transit Link are opening their service for trips until regular service resumes. For more on these reservations, click here.
