AB 890 will grant nurse practitioners authority to practice to the full extent of their education.
I support this bill because it will help California close the gap in the shortage of primary care providers. This means patients will have more choices when it comes to providers and it will help lower the number of Emergency Department visits by patients seeking primary care.
Research has shown nurse practitioners provide care equal in quality to that of physicians.
Rural areas experiencing a shortage of providers would also benefit from this bill. Nurse practitioners are more likely to work in community clinics and take Medi-Cal patients than physicians.
Supporting this bill means Californians can better avoid hospitalizations that result from the lack of primary care and this will save the health care system money.
States that already allow full nurse practitioner practice show great improvement in access to care.
We should all support this bill as it affects the well-being of the whole state of California.Grace Kioko
