Labor Day, the traditional end of summer holiday, is Monday, Sept. 7.
But nothing 2020 is traditional with the coronavirus pandemic.
Below is a list of what is open and closed and the hours for Labor Day.
Government
- Massachusetts state offices: Closed
- Local municipal offices: Closed; trash pickups delayed or rescheduled.
- Federal offices: Closed
- Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles: Closed
- Massachusetts state courts: Closed
- Federal courts: Closed Friday.
- Massachusetts state parks: Open.
- National parks: In general, they are open, but the coronavirus may be impacting operations. Check nps.gov to find out what’s going on at the park you wish to visit.
Post offices:
Closed
Customers with Post Offices Boxes inside of a retail Post Office lobby may wish to plan ahead or check with their local manager on accessibility
Liquor stores
Massachusetts: Open.
Connecticut: Open.
Financial
Most bank branches are closed Friday. Customers should check with their branch, according to the Massachusetts Bankers Association.
The stock market is closed Monday

Big Y: All stores will be open regular hours.
Stop & Shop: Open regular hours .
Holyoke Mall at Ingleside
Open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday . Store and restaurant hours may vary.
Hampshire Mall in Hadley
Open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. Times vary for some stores and restaurants.

- All subway and commuter rail lines, buses, trackless trolleys, and commuter rails will operate on a Sunday schedule.
- There will be no service ferry service.
- The RIDE will operate on a Sunday schedule.
- Please note that there is no Sunday service for the Stoughton and Needham lines.

Highways
- The state will construction outside of fixed work zones for the Labor Day travel period effective at 5 a.m., today, Friday, September 4. Scheduled road work will then resume at the start of normal business hours on Tuesday, September 8.
- The High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane on I-93 between Boston and Quincy is deployed earlier than usual in the afternoon by opening at 1 p.m., on Friday, September 4. The HOV lane will be closed on Monday, September 7.
- The additional “swing lane” on Route 1A southbound at the Sumner Tunnel remains suspended until further notice.
Other Transportation
- CapeFlyer will provide additional trains Thursday and will run on a weekend schedule on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. See details here.
- CTrail: CTrail Hartford Line and Amtrak trains will operate on a Sunday schedule for Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2020.More information is available here.
- Pioneer Valley Transit Authority (PVTA): Springfield and Northampton routes will operate on Sunday schedules on Saturday. UMass Transit routes will be on its regular schedule and the customer service office will be closed.
- Franklin Regional Transit Authority (FRTA): No service Saturday.
- Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA): No service Saturday.
- ·Peter Pan Bus Lines: Peter Pan warns that Labor Day is a busy holiday travel day. Some schedule changes are in effect. Details are available here.
