Yankees first baseman Luke Voit is over his oblique injury and his swing looked pretty healthy, too, Friday night while he was going 3-for-4 with a homer and double in a rehab game with the Class AA Somerset Patriots.
By Tuesday night, the 2020 home run champ is expected to be off the injured list and playing first base for the Yankees for the start of a home series against the Kansas City Royals.
“That’s the plan,” manager Aaron Boone said before Saturday’s Yankees-Oakland Athletics game at Yankee Stadium.

Reliever Darren O’Day also is getting closer to returning from a rotator cuff strain that’s had him on the injured list since May 1. The righty was scheduled to throw a bullpen on Saturday and begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday that likely will be similar to the one recently wrapped up by reliever Zack Britton, who made five minor-league appearances over 13 days from May 29 to June 10.
O’Day, 38, last pitched on April 29. The sidewinder posted a 3.00 ERA in 10 outings, allowing three runs over nine innings with nine strikeouts and two walks.
Voit, who has missed 21 Yankees games in a row counting Saturday, was 5-for-14 with a homer and four RBI in his first four rehab games, the last three with Somerset after one with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Voit scheduled to play for Somerset again on Saturday and he’ll probably be there on Sunday, too.
On Friday night, Voit played first base and hit leadoff for all nine innings of Somerset’s 8-1 home win over Richmond. He started his evening with a line single to left in the first inning, then contributed a two-run double to center in the second and a towering sixth-inning, opposite-field homer to right center in the sixth.
“He says he feels good,” Somerset manager Julio Mosquera said. “And what can you say about his power. He’s going to hit the ball hard. He wasn’t where he wasn’t to be, but he’s getting his timing back. I was cautious seeing him running the bases, but he looks good to me.”
