The Hawks used a set piece to get on the board late in the first half in the 41st minute. Junior Doireann Fahey, who received the short corner kick in the Hawks' attacking third, found sophomore Tristan McFarlane on a deep serve towards the far post. McFarlane headed the ball towards the center of the six-yard post, where Stone was able to one-touch a low shot past the Wildcats back line to give Hartford the 1-0 lead heading into the break.

Hartford added an insurance tally in the 61st minute thanks to a heads-up play from Layne. Applying pressure on New Hampshire keeper Cat Sheppard just outside the six-yard box, Layne intercepted the ball and easily scored on the empty net to double the Hawks' advantage to 2-0. Down the stretch, Hartford goalkeeper Maia Perez made each of her two saves over the final 18 minutes to hold off New Hampshire and secure the win.
