SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's cross country team finished in second place on Friday night in the season-opening Galen Piper Alumni Open/Cross Country Challenge held under the lights of the campus recreation fields.
Shippensburg scored 60 points, second only to race champion Dickinson with 42 points. The Red Devils went 1-2-10-11-18 for the win, while the Raiders went 4-8-12-17-19. There were nine total teams in the race.
Hayden Hunt ran with the lead pack for much of the race and finished fourth with a time of 19:27.8. Fellow sophomore Aiden Gonder also posted a Top 10 finish – crossing the finish line eighth in 19:46.
Ian Sherlock was the No. 3 runner and placed 12th in a time of 19:58.9. Drew Dailey ran 17th in 20:15, and redshirt-freshman Jacob Mavretic rounded out the Raider scorers with a 19th-place time of 20:19.
The Shippensburg Alumni ran sixth in the race and was paced by Matt Gillette, who took third place in a time of 19:20.4.
Shippensburg returns to action in two weeks at the Division II Challenge hosted by Kutztown.
