BIG RAPIDS — Our Brother’s Keeper recently opened its shelter doors to serve individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
The shelter is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. OBK has been a seasonal shelter since first opening in 2013, with last year’s operations running from Oct. 1 through June 30.
The hope of a year-round shelter was often discussed, as people can experience homelessness at any time. The OBK Board of Directors and Shelter staff are thrilled to announce that once the doors were opened this year, they would not be closing again.
OBK will now remain open as a year-round facility. They are so grateful for the many sources of funding that have made this possible, including grants from the Salvation Army ESP program, Fremont Foundation, Mecosta and Osceola Community Foundations, and the many community donors who found it in their hearts to help others in need.
Moving forward, regardless of when people experience homelessness, OBK will be there with an open door, hot meals, a warm bed, and support from its staff and volunteers to help the shelter guests move forward with their lives.
