NEXT UP:  The Bobcat volleyball team will conclude it non-conference schedule when it travels to Seattle, Wash., for a pair of matches at Alaska Airlines Arena. Montana State will face #7 Washington on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 12 p.m. (MT). The Bobcats will finish play against Fresno State, Friday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. (MT).
 
EMERALD CITY BOUND:  The MSU volleyball squad faces #7 Washington on Thursday afternoon. The meeting will mark the third consecutive time the Bobcats have faced the Huskies when UW has been nationally ranked. In 2008, #9 Washington played in the Bobcat Classic and defeated MSU 3-0 as Kaytlin Van Burger-Hennessey sparked the Cats with six kills, a .364 attack mark and two blocks. In 2005, #2 Washington handed the Bobcats as 3-0 setback in then Bank of America Arena. The Huskies would go on to a 33-1 overall mark and capture its first NCAA title. Kim Stonehouse-Jensen had nine kills for MSU, while middle blocker Megan Zanto-Handl was almost unstoppable with eight kills, a .467 attack mark and two blocks.
 
BOBCAT BITES:  In the 'Hmm' Department, the Bobcats defeated Boise State (3-1), Boise State defeated #10 Utah (3-1) and #10 Utah defeated #3 Nebraska (3-2), shouldn't MSU be ranked? just sayin...Montana State, North Texas & Abilene Christian all went 2-1 at the North Texas Challenge. Montana State defeated North Texas 3-2, but fell to ACU 3-0. North Texas defeated Abilene Christian 3-0, but fell to MSU 3-2. ACU defeated MSU 3-0 but fell to UNT 3-0...MSU and UNT both defeated Jackson State 3-0, while Abilene Christian got by the Tigers 3-1...Jourdain Klein led MSU last weekend, averaging 1.55 kps, while hitting .444 from the field.

THE SCOUTING REPORT: #7 Washington is 5-1 overall after knocking off #22 Pepperdine in four sets, last Friday. The Huskies lone loss was at #11Ohio State (3-1) in Columbus on Aug. 28. Last spring, Washington posted an overall mark of 20-4, while going 17-3 in Pac-12 play. The Huskies advanced to the Final Four where it fell to eventual national champions Kentucky (3-1). For their efforts, Samantha Drechsel and Ella May Powell earned All-America 1st-Team honors, while Claire Hoffman was an All-America 2nd Team pick. Currently, Hoffman, a 6-2 junior outside hitter from Pleasant Hill, Ore., and Drechsel, a 6-4 senior outside hitter from Woodinville, Wash., lead the team averaging 4.00 and 2.50 kills per set, while Powell, a 6-foot junior from Fayetteville, Ark., is dishing out 10.17 assists per set. She is also tops on the team with nine aces. Defensively, Shannon Crenshaw, a 6-2 junior outside hitter/libero from Longwood, Fla., and Powell pace the team averaging 2.68 and 2.61 digs per set. Sophie Summers, a 6-3 redshirt freshman from Portland, Ore., leads the team averaging .92 blocks per contest. Keegan Cook is in his seventh year guiding the Huskies and is 157-41 overall. Fresno State is 3-3 on the season after going 1-2 at the Kansas State Invitational last weekend in Manhattan. The Bulldogs, who went 8-6 in Mountain West play during the spring season, have notched wins over Cal State Northridge (3-0), UC Riverside (3-2) and Ohio (3-1) this fall. This season, Fresno State has been led by Desiree Sukhov, a 5-11 senior outside hitter from Murrieta, Calif., and Amaria Kelley, a 6-4 junior outside hitter from Sacramento, Calif., who average 2.75 and 2.73 kills per set, respectively. Setter Mikayla Weiss, a 5-10 junior from Clovis, Calif., is dishing out 7.50 assists per set, while chipping in 1.86 digs. As the net, the Bulldogs are paced by Grace Doyle, a 6-1 junior middle blocker from Chandler, Ariz., and Kasey Purry, a 6-3 sophomore middle blocker from Tucson, Ariz., who average 1.04 and 1.00 blocks per set. Jonathan Winder is in his fourth season with the Bulldogs and has recorded 47-36 overall mark.
 
HARD BLOCK CAFE: Montana State is ranked third in the Big Sky Conference averaging 2.30 blocks per set. MSU's 2.30 bps also ranks #81 in the nation. The Bobcats' 85 total blocks is second in the conference and #30 in the nation this week. Individually, freshman Jordan Radick is third the league averaging 1.19 blocks per set, which ranks #90 in the country. Sophomore Emma Pence is fourth in the Big Sky averaging 1.15 blocks per contest. That number ranks #115 in the country. The Bobcats had a season-best 18 team blocks in its match with Arkansas, last Thursday night.
 
BEAM ME UP SCOTTY: Senior Hannah Scott went over the 1,000-kill mark with her fourth block against Portland on Sept. 3. The Hawthorne, Calif, product is now the 14th member of MSU's prestigious 1000-kill club. Her 1,049 career kills rank 12th on Montana State's all-time kills chart and with just 11 more kills will move into MSU's all-time top 10. On the season, she is averaging 2.92 kills per set. Last weekend, Scott averaged 2.40 kills and 2.50 digs per set, while hitting .235 from the field. Her best match of the weekend came against North Texas with 14 kills, 12 digs and two block assists. Scott had her best hitting match against Abilene Christian, posting a .368 (8-1-19) attack mark. Three weeks ago, Scott was named to the Boise State All-Tournament team. She has been in double-figure kills in all seven-of-nine matches, registering a season-high 15 kills on three occasions. Scott is currently second on the squad averaging 3.28 points per set. During the spring season, Scott had a breakout campaign which culminated in being named to the All-Big Sky First-Team as she averaged 2.89 kills per set, while hitting .232 from the floor. Scott posted a career-high 25 kills against Idaho State on Feb. 20. In addition, she recorded 18 double-figure kill matches. Scott also averaged 2.18 digs per set and logged seven double-digit dig matches, including a season-high 15 against Portland State on Feb. 28. Scott recorded a career-high 10 blocks against Northern Colorado at the league tournament in 2019.
 
CLIMBING THE LADDER: As the MSU program continues to improve, its numbers within the Big Sky Conference's statistical categories have shown remarkable improvement, as well. In the 15 team statistical categories acknowledged by the NCAA, the Cats rank in the top three of six categories, including #2 in team blocks (85) and hitting percentage (.232), and #3 in assists per set (11.41), blocks per set (2.30), team assists (422) and team kills (445).
 
A LENDING HAND: Former Bozeman High product and Montana Class AA state champion setter Allie Lynch is averaging 4.60 assists per game running MSU's 6-2 offense. At the Bobcat Classic, she played in eight sets and averaged 4.75 assists and .63 digs per set. Lynch dished out a weekend-high 22 assists against Arkansas. On the season, she is also averaging 1.35 digs per set, including a season-best 10 saves against Boise State. Sophomore Delaney Shearan averaged 5.10 assists and 1.20 digs per set during the North Texas Challenge. She has a weekend-best 23 assists and four service aces as the Bobcats defeated the Mean Green in five sets. Shearan dished out a season-high 26 against Long Beach State in the first match of the season. Last spring, Shearan dished out a season and career-high 33 assists in MSU 3-2 win over Idaho State on Feb. 20. True-freshman Audrey Hofer received the starting nod against North Texas last Friday and saw action in all 11 sets. The Helena native averaged 5.64 assists and 1.73 digs per contest. Hofer had a weekend-best 28 assists as MSU posted a 3-2 decision over North Texas. The Helena Capital grad also registered a career-high 11 digs against the Mean Green. On the season, Hofer is averaging 5.57 assists per set, which ranks eighth in the Big Sky Conference. Hofer also chips in 1.57 digs per set. She registered one double-double this season and is currently second on the team with nine service aces.
 
MAY I ASSIST YOU?: Senior setter Allie Lynch is slowly creeping up the all-time Montana State assists chart. The Bozeman native went over the 1,000-assist plateau against Portland State on Oct. 24, 2019. Former Bobcat standout Brooke Olsen-Roush (1996-99) holds the all-time Bobcats record set back in the old 15-point scoring era. Here's a look at MSU's all-time Top 10, and where Lynch stands:

THOMSEN TIME: Three weeks ago, sophomore Kira Thomsen earned tournament MVP honors at the Boise State Invitational after posting a .337 attack mark and averaging 3.42 kills, 2.83 digs and .58 aces per set. At the Bobcat Classic, the Parker, Colo., product averaged 3.00 kills and 1.64 digs per set with a .260 attack mark. Last weekend at the North Texas Challenge, she averaged 2.55 kills and 1.18 digs per game. She had her best outing against the Mean Green with 16 kills and four digs. On the season, she has been in double-figure kills on six occasions and has produced two double-doubles. Thomsen currently ranks tenth in the Big Sky Conference in kills (3.00 kps). Her 125 total points per ranks second in the Big Sky and #126 in the nation. Last spring, Thomsen earned First-Team All-Big Sky Conference honors after averaging 3.52 kills and 4.02 points per set during MSU's spring season. She registered a season-best 22 kills at Weber State on March 20, and a season-high 26 digs against Portland State on Feb.27.
 
PENCE POWER: Sophomore Emma Pence, who was one of two players in the league that garnered #BigSkyVB Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week accolades during spring action, is averaging 1.50 kills and 1.15 blocks per set, while hitting .233 from the field this fall. Two weeks ago, she averaged 2.14 kills and 1.00 blocks per set and posted a .400 attack mark at the Bobcat Classic and was named to the all-tournament team. Pence currently ranks fourth in the Big Sky averaging 1.15 blocks per set, which ranks 115th in the nation. Pence's 39 total blocks ranks 66th in the country. She has been in double-figure kills twice, including a season-best 11 kills against Arkansas. She registered a season-high nine blocks at Boise State three weeks ago.
 
THE MENACE FROM ENNIS: Jourdain Klein, a 6-1 outside hitter from Ennis, Mont., averaged 1.55 kills and .73 blocks per set at the North Texas Challenge. Klein had a very efficient weekend hitting, recording a .444 (17-1-36) attack for the three matches. Her best outing of the tournament came against North Texas as she registered seven kills, a .500 attack mark and three blocks. Last spring, as a redshirt-freshman, Klein was named to the Second-Team All-Big Sky Conference team after averaging 1.49 kills and .97 blocks per set, while hitting at a .197 clip. She tallied a season-high eight blocks against Arkansas. During spring ball, she recorded a season and career-high 14 kills as the Bobcats defeated Portland State on Feb. 28.
 
WHEN IT SAYS LIBBY, LIBBY, LIBBY: Senior libero Libby Christensen played in two matches and four sets last weekend, averaging 2.75 digs per set. She had her best outing of the weekend with eight saves against Abilene Christian. Christensen has been in double-digit digs on five occasions this fall, including a season-best 19 digs at Boise State on Aug. 28. On the season, she is averaging 3.26 digs per set, which ranks eighth in the Big Sky Conference. Last spring, Christensen averaged 4.19 digs per set, recording six double-digit digs matches, including a career-high 27 saves as the Bobcats dropped a 3-2 decision to Southern Utah at the Big Sky Tourney.
 
TURNING THE TIDE: Sophomore Avery Turnage played in one match last weekend at the North Texas Challenge and recorded four kills against Abilene Christian. Two weeks ago, she averaged 1.18 kills and .82 blocks per set at the Bobcat Classic. At the Bobcat Classic, Turnage had a weekend-high six kills against Arkansas and five blocks against Portland. On the season, she is averaging 1.61 kills and .83 blocks per set, while hitting .204 from the floor. She recorded a season-best 10 kills against Long Beach State and seven blocks against Boise State. 
 
MORE FROM THE MIDDLE: True-freshman Jordan Radick and sophomore Kaycee O'Dell combined to average 2.00 kills and .90 blocks per set at the middle blocking spot, while hitting .296 from the floor at the North Texas Challenge. Radick, a graduate of Bozeman High, played in all three matches, hitting .265, while adding 22 kills and 11 blocks. Her 12 blocks against Arkansas are the highest in the Big Sky this season. O'Dell, a product of Glendale, Ariz., posted a career-high 11 kills in MSU's win over North Texas.
