St. Charles, Mo. – No. 19 Illinois Fighting Illini wrestling returned to the mat on Saturday at the Lindenwood Open as six wrestlers placed in the top six of their respective weight classes. Mike Bosco earned the top spot at 285 pounds in the freshman/sophomore division, winning four consecutive matches en route to a first-place finish.
Danny Pucino (141 pounds) and Joe Roberts (157 pounds) each placed fourth in the Open Division, while Dylan Connell (2nd place, 184 pounds), Caden Ernd (6th place, 174 pounds), and Joey Braunagel (5th place, 197 pounds) each placed in the top six of their respective weights in the Freshman/Sophomore division.
"We were short handed today but the guys that wrestled competed hard," said head coach Mike Poeta. "They were offensive, won a lot of matches, and everything was earned in the ones that didn't go our way. I liked seeing Mikey Bosco take first in his first ever college wrestling tournament."
"Danny Pucino and Joe Roberts did a good job picking up a lot of wins in the Open Division. We battled some health and injury issues the last few weeks and we'll be back to full strength for SIUE and UT-Chattanooga in 3 weeks."
