Greetings gamblers, it's Chris Bengel back with you on another Tuesday. After this past weekend, I'm venturing to say that I might be done betting on the NFL this season. It's just been so difficult to forecast games.
So instead I've learned that basketball has been more my bag this season. While I've never had a ton of luck with large spreads, Villanova came through for me on Sunday as they covered an 18.5 spread with ease against Big 5 rival La Salle. The NBA hasn't been half bad either, so that's where the bulk of my picks are coming from on Tuesday.

๐ฅ The Hot Ticket
๐Warriors vs. Suns, 10 p.m. | TV: TNT
The Pick: Suns -2.5 (-110): This is one of the best games we've had in the NBA so far this season. The Warriors have the NBA's best record at 18-2 while the Suns are currently riding a 16-game winning streak. These are easily the two best teams right now.
The Suns truly have been money against the spread as of late. Phoenix holds a 5-2 mark against the spread in their last seven home games against teams with a road winning percentage greater than .600. One of Golden State's two losses came on the road when they fell to the Charlotte Hornets back on Nov. 14. In addition, every single one of Phoenix's wins this season have come by at least three points and they've faced some of the league's most talented teams in the form of the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets and Dallas Mavericks.
The Suns really excel on the perimeter as they are shooting 36.2 percent from beyond the arc. On the defensive end, Phoenix is holding their opponents to a 33.9 percent shooting clip from three, which is obviously where the Warriors do a large amount of their damage. If the Suns' long wings can affect a few of Stephen Curry's long-range attempts, it could go a long way towards deciding this one. I definitely expect a very close and entertaining contest, but I'm confident in backing the Suns on their home floor.
Key Trend: The Suns are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games as a home favorite

๐ NBA
Lakers vs. Kings, 10 p.m. | TV: NBA.TV
The Pick: Over 227 (-110) -- This is an incredibly large number, but these two high-scoring offenses should have no problem eclipsing it. Despite their inconsistencies, the Lakers have the fifth-highest scoring offense as they average 111.3 points-per-game. On the other hand, the lowly Kings also score the ball at will with an average of 110.2 points-per-game, good for ninth in the NBA.
Potent offenses only go so far if the opposing defense is playing at a high level. However, that's definitely not the case for either of these squads. In fact, these are two of the worst defenses in the entire league. The Lakers are surrendering 114.1 points-per-game (third-worst in the NBA) and opponents are shooting 45.1 percent against them. Meanwhile, the Kings are giving up 113.1 points-per-game, which is good for fourth-worst in the NBA. Opponents are also shooting 45.8 percent against the Kings, which is 21st in the league.
The offenses score a ton of points and the defenses like to give up a ton of points. While this is a rather large number, this should be able to clear with ease.
Key Trend: The over is 5-1 in the Lakers' last six games
๐ NHL
Capitals vs. Panthers, 7 p.m. | TV: NHL.TV
The Pick: Over 6.0 goals (-110) -- We've had a large amount of luck cashing NHL unders this season, but this is a situation where attacking the over makes a ton of sense. The Capitals and Panthers are two of the highest-scoring offenses across the league. The Panthers are currently averaging 3.7 goals-per-game (third in the league) while the Capitals are averaging 3.5 goals-per-game (fifth in the league).
Even with captain Aleksander Barkov out of the lineup for the past five games, the Panthers offense has still produced at least three goals in three of those contests. In addition, the Capitals have been just as dangerous with 14 goals over their last three games.
These two teams recently did battle on Friday and that game ended in a 4-3 Capitals victory with Capitals star Alex Ovechkin registering a hat trick. Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky is slated to be in net for the Panthers while Ilya Samsonov is scheduled to start in goal for the Capitals. Both netminders rank in the top 10 in the NHL in terms of goals-against-average, but the two started in Friday's contest and combined to allow seven goals. In a battle between two stellar offenses, the offenses always hold the advantage in my book. Feel confident betting the over.
Key Trend: The Over is 5-2 in the Panthers last seven games against a team with a winning percentage above .600
