Thanksgiving Day is a state and federal holiday. It’s the tenth of 11 federal holidays in 2021 with Christmas to follow.
Is mail delivered on Thanksgiving Day 2021? Will the mail run on Thanksgiving?
There will be no mail delivered on Thanksgiving Day, as well as no FedEx or UPS. The only services that will be available are FedEx Custom Critical and UPS Express Critical.
Is the post office open on Thanksgiving 2021?

- Walmart: The big-box retailer will launch some big deals ahead of the holiday shopping event.
- Samsung: The tech-giant’s latest smart TV models are now up to $3,500 off to kick off the holiday shopping season, including the Neo QLED 8K Smart TV for 34% off.
- Lenovo: The tech company is in the middle of a “Days of Doorbusters” sales event to kick off its early Black Friday deals.
- Our Place: The cookware company is holding its “biggest sale of the year,” and one of the standout deals is the Always Pan, which is down to $99 instead of $145.

Will supermarkets be open on Thanksgiving Day 2021?
Many supermarkets will be open with reduced hours. Shoppers should ultimately check with their local supermarket for specific information.
The following grocery stores are open:
- Acme (7 a.m. - 4 p.m. in most locations, but hours may vary in some locations)
- Foodtown (varies by store)
- ShopRite (varies by store)
- Stop & Shop (6 a.m. - 3 p.m.; pharmacy will be closed)
- Wegmans (7 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
- Whole Foods (varies by store)

Are restaurants open on Thanksgiving Day 2021?
It varies by establishment. Some restaurants may be closed, while others are open and selling prepared, holiday meals to-go.
Patrons should check with specific restaurants for information.
Are malls open on Thanksgiving Day 2021?
All malls in New Jersey will be closed on Thanksgiving Day 2021.
Last year, the only mall in the state that was open on the holiday was Brunswick Square, and this year they will be closed.
Simon, one of the largest mall operators in the U.S., announced all of its shopping centers, malls and properties across the country will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.
Are the stock markets open on Thanksgiving?
No. Stock markets will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Nasdaq trading and bond markets will also be closed.
Are New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission locations open on Thanksgiving Day 2021?
All Motor Vehicle Commission offices will be closed. Additionally, all New Jersey state offices and courts are closed for the holiday.
Online processing of some documents are available on Motor Vehicle Commission’s website.
Does NJ Transit, PATH and SEPTA operate on a normal schedule?
NJ Transit will be adding extra trains and buses in the “morning and early afternoon hours” to accommodate passengers traveling to and from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in New York City. PATH will operate on a Saturday schedule while SEPTA will operate on a Sunday schedule.
For NJ Transit, riders should use NJ Transit’s online trip planner to double-check arrival and departure times.
When is the next federal holiday?
The next federal holiday is Christmas Day on Friday, Dec. 25.
