CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina officially begins the Justin Gray era on Tuesday night as the Catamounts welcome Bowling Green to Ingles Court at the Ramsey Center for the 2021-22 season opener at 7:30 p.m. It marks the second half of a basketball doubleheader with the WCU women's team as they host Emory & Henry at 4 p.m.

Admission to the game between Catamounts and Falcons is $11 for adults and $6 for youth 12 and under. Kids 2 and under get in free. WCU students gain free admission to the game by showing their Cat Card at the Northwest Entrance and are encouraged to sit in the Cat Cage student section located in sections QR. Fans are encouraged to review WCU's Clear Bag policy and parking maps located in the right column.

The game will be streamed on ESPN+ (paid subscription required) with live audio coverage on the Catamount Sports Network beginning at 7 p.m. Free live stats will also be available via a link on catamountsports.com.

Tuesday's game marks the regular-season debut for WCU head coach Justin Gray, who became the 19th head coach in program history in April following the departure of Mark Prosser for Winthrop. Gray, who had a highly successful playing career at Wake Forest and spent a dozen years playing professionally at an international level, helped lead Winthrop to the 2020-21 Big South Conference title as well as an NCAA Tournament appearance. Gray selected longtime college basketball coach Jayson Gee as his associate head coach and tabbed Brian Graves and Zack Freesman as assistant coaches to complete his inaugural staff in Cullowhee.

WCU earned a 106-62 win over Campbellsville Harrodsburg in a home exhibition contest on Nov. 1. Cam Bacote led five Catamounts in double figures with 18 points while Marlow Gilmore posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Bowling Green makes the trip to Cullowhee after being picked to finish sixth in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and is led by preseason All-MAC selection Daeqwon Plowden. Plowden, a Third-Team All-MAC selection last year, finished fourth in the league in total rebounds and sixth in blocks per game. The Falcons posted a 14-12 record in 2020-21 and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the College Basketball Invitational (CBI), but welcome six new players for the 2021-22 campaign. Head coach Michael Huger is in his seventh season as head coach of his alma mater.

The Catamounts and Falcons have met three previous times with WCU holding a 2-1 lead in the all-time series. WCU earned neutral-site wins in 2005 and 2007, but lost 73-52 in the most recent meeting hosted by Bowling Green on Dec. 21, 2018. No current Catamounts participated in that contest.

The Catamounts hit the road this weekend, heading to Wake Forest on Friday (Nov. 12) for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off before heading to East Carolina for a 4 p.m. Sunday contest.
